Analyst Sees Bitcoin Potential Up to $97,000

At a glance

  • Bitcoin established a base and trend-reversing head-and-shoulders formation after declines from $125k$126k.
  • Bullish momentum has returned; a sustained hold above $80,000 supports a move toward $96k$97k.
  • Immediate resistance lies between $97,000 and $100,000; a drop below $80,000 would target $75,000.
  • Recent fast selling from $85k to $80k was mostly deleveraging; about $1 billion of leveraged positions were removed in 24 hours, with ~$300 million in Bitcoin.
  • A speculative long-term risk is potential advances in AI that could threaten elliptic curve cryptography used by cryptocurrencies.

Market Analysis

Bitcoin's price action has shifted notably after a previous run into the $125,000$126,000 area, which was followed by sharp declines and several negative consolidations. The market subsequently formed a base pattern: an initial low, a slightly deeper low, and then a higher low. From this structure emerged what the analyst characterises as a trend-terminating head-and-shoulders formation an inflection that was followed by pronounced upward momentum.

Crucially, Bitcoin has shown clear bullish momentum for the first time since mid-2025. That rally was followed by a healthy consolidation and a breakout to the upside. At present the market is undergoing a smaller consolidation phase. The analyst argues that as long as the $80,000 level holds, the probability of another upward breakout remains strong.

On the upside, a move above $80,000 could target between $96,000 and $97,000, with larger resistance clustered in the $97,000$100,000 zone. Conversely, a break below $80,000 would put the $75,000 region into focus as the next meaningful support.

Short-term Risks and Market Dynamics

There is a short-term technical risk: Bitcoin could form a double top after stalling at a significant resistance area. The price showed renewed downward pressure today, which could evolve into a fresh bearish impulse pushing Bitcoin below the $80,000 threshold.

Recent rapid selling from roughly $85,000 down to $80,000 appears to have been driven more by deleveraging than by a structural shift in fundamentals. Within 24 hours, around $1 billion of leveraged positions were liquidated, approximately $300 million of which were in Bitcoin. That forced unwinding has the effect of reducing overstretched positioning among aggressive market participants, which could be constructive once the dust settles.

Another lingering risk is the theoretical concern that advances in AI could eventually threaten elliptic curve cryptography used in many cryptocurrencies. While that remains speculative and imperfectly understood, it is a constraint on the most optimistic scenarios for Bitcoin.

Outlook

Balancing the technical picture, recent deleveraging and renewed upward momentum, the analyst maintains a constructive stance on Bitcoin so long as $80,000 holds. If the level remains intact, the path toward the mid-to-high $90,000s looks plausible. Traders and investors should, however, remain mindful of the short-term double-top risk and the potential for renewed selling pressure to test lower supports around $75,000.

In sum, Bitcoins chart shows a shift from bearish consolidation into re-acceleration, but the next meaningful directional move will depend on whether the market can sustain above the $80,000 pivot. Position sizing, stop management and close attention to leverage flows remain essential for participants navigating the current environment.
