Market Analysis
After a fresh US intervention in the bond market, safe-haven assets moved sharply higher while risk-sensitive European equities lost ground. Bitcoin jumped above the $70,000 mark for the first time since early June, briefly rising as much as 4.2% to $71,995. The cryptocurrency has rallied roughly 15% since last Friday, a surge market participants attribute to a mix of policy signals, political developments and a large liquidation event on derivatives markets that punished short positions.
Gold also benefited from the bond-market actions and climbed to its highest level since early June. The metal was trading near $4,518 per ounce, slightly below the previous session's peak, as investors sought protection amid renewed uncertainty about yield dynamics. At the same time the US Dollar Index slipped about 0.3% to 98.574, its weakest level since mid-May, amplifying gains for dollar-priced commodities and crypto.
Equities and Selected Stocks
In Europe, the Dax fell beneath the psychologically important 26,000 level as macro uncertainty weighed on sentiment. Notable movers in the German market included Sartorius, whose shares jumped more than 6% after UBS upgraded the lab-services group, citing premium-growth characteristics that warrant premium valuation. UBS raised revenue and earnings forecasts for the company through 2031 by roughly 3% on average, supporting the bullish call.
Brenntag was among the laggards in the Dax after Bank of America resumed coverage with an Underperform rating and a €55 price target. Analysts said that after the large gains driven by geopolitical developments in the Middle East, the stock was reverting toward more normalised trading levels.
Overall, the market action underlines the sensitivity of risk assets to developments in the fixed-income market. The US Treasurys decision to materially step up its ongoing bond repurchase program helped calm yield pressure but also encouraged flows into assets viewed as stores of value. Traders and strategists will be watching further Fed and fiscal signals closely and whether recent liquidation-driven moves in crypto markets have created a more durable bid for Bitcoin and other speculative assets.
